In only their first year of Select level soccer, the Kings Slam have captured their second consecutive CUSL league championship.
This is a awesome accomplishment because the SLAM started at level 5 in CUSL when most new teams start at level 8. The Slam have now won at level 5 and level 4 and will advance to CUSL level 3 in the Fall.
This team is fun to coach because they are always having fun but understand what their goal is when they take the field. Over the past two seasons, the Slam have gone 12-2, won 2 league championships and placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the tournaments they participated in. This Slam pride themselves on good defense and this spring they only allowed 4 goals the entire season achieving a 5-1 record.
These girls know the competitive will increase as they move to 8v8 in the fall and are excited to add two new teammates to take the next level.
With the season complete, it is time for the post season party and pictures to follow.

Kings Slam win 2nd in TFA United Cup
Another terrific weekend for the Kings Slam. Three and zero heading into the championship when a freak snow storm hits making the match a mess. Losing two to one in the championship on a play where the girls slip is understandable but we battled the freezing temperatures for a dominating weekend against some strong competition.
This is a great start to our cusl level four spring season.

Fun Individual Routines to Show Off
In preparation for the girl's final S4 offseason trainings, the girls were encouraged to compile their own routine using a combination of the moves they have learned. It was great fun and the girls loved it. This video shows the girls practicing for each other. They are supposed to have their routines memorized by next week. I got a bunch of them in this video. I missed a few because I did not realize it was happening right away but enjoy and get excited for your girls learning. It is cool.
Here is a list of the moves they are allowed to pick from to build into their routine.

Spring Party
Team,
I would like to have a team party at the END of February / beginning of March to kick off the spring season, go over some items and have some fun.
Would someone take the lead (Kathy, Ann, Julie, Kristie, NOT ROB) on volunteering to host and assign items for us to bring?
Topics
1. Get parents in sync with learning / skills for the girls for upcoming season.
2. Where we are progress report.
3. Turn in Team paperwork if we can (Brian notarize if possible).
4. Parent discussion on calendar of activities and not burning the girls out.
5. Show some videos to parents / girls about what we want to learn so that everyone understands what they should see in the games this season.
Oh yeah and have fun. I would love some kind of activity like making tshirts or something that gets them thinking about the team and their teammates.
Post comments to this entry so we can organize.

Did you see the Moves in the Game
Parents,
Saturday was a tough indoor game being down 3 players, playing on the large field etc. We were not our selves the first half playing shy, but the second half was much better and played the other team even.
The best part of the game was that MANY (maybe all) the girls were attempting to use their S4 moves in the game and that was exciting. Some worked, some failed miserably and it was awesome. Haley setup and got around multiple girls. Nina did a scissors while flying down the middle of the field and she even tried a Mara dona step over. It was crazy.
Remember what we have been told is that the girls will be introduced to many moves and then grab on to the 2 or 3 they really like and perfect them. Encourage your daughter to use these moves on Monday. I saw Emma, Claire, Kirsten and Faye attempt or set the defender up for a move which is great.
SIDE NOTE: If really watched the game you noticed our weaknesses; cleanly receiving a ball, understanding where to go with the ball (timing), winning 50/50 balls. Those are all areas we will be focusing on this spring season.
