Kings Laws/Sturm Select Soccer Team Guidelines
The information is to make the operation of our Select soccer team as smooth as possible for our players and parents.  You will read information about coaching, Kings’ process, forms, fees, uniforms, training, team principles and more.  Make sure you read through it and are in agreement with the way the team will be managed so it is the desired fit for your daughter.

Team Philosophy for Middle School and High School
Our team consists of superior athletes.  We maintain as large a roster as reasonable to allow our team to be flexible managing the outside activities that young ladies want to participate in during middle school and high school while still playing competitive soccer at a high level.  Most of our girls want to participate in additional high school activities such as Drama, basketball, swimming, track, volleyball, etc. That is encouraged and asked to be balanced with your club soccer expectations.  The only restriction our team has is limiting the number of club teams our athletes play on because that can directly impact your full participation.  Our parents, players and coaches all work together to create an environment that will expose the girls to wonderful life experiences thru sport, travel, and friendship.  Most of our girls will play high school soccer, some will play in college and our goal is to assist these girls enjoying theses experiences thru the end of high school.

Kings Program and Level – Kings offers different levels which have to do with money and training days.  SELECT, RED / Blue and Academy are their programs.  Do not confuse that with your teams competition level 1 thru 10.  Kings program refer to how many days you practice 2 / week, how many tournaments you play in and the general level of commitment expected.  Kings Academy means you practice 3/week and do other specialized training opportunities.

This team is in the SELECT team category but we behave like an academy program team.  We are under the Kings name.  We control all parts of the process like tryouts but we also have to do things like find a home game and practice field.

Current Competition Level - CUSL Level 1.

Coaching – Keith Laws has his D and E coaching License.  I, Chris Sturm, have my E license.  An E license is required to coach the girls.  Kathy Boehmer has volunteered to be team administrator.  Kathy Laws is official adult beverage supervisor.

Our coaching staff believes strongly in both player development and team strategy.  Keith will aid the girls on furthering their personal and teamwork skills while Chris will invest time with the girls on teaching strategy, positioning and team offense and defensive plays.  Other volunteers are going to work with our goalies to advance their skills.

Additional training personnel will be utilized.  Our team will participate in footwork training to create exceptional ball handling skills.  Experienced position instructors will be brought in for lessons and strategy lessons with the Xavier University team.

Practice – Our team practices 2 nights per week normally Monday and Thursday at various fields arranged with Independence Soccer . Our practice field is Pioneer
 Park.

Player Responsibility -
Practice - All players are expected to be at practice on time and ready to start.  Players should have all needed practice gear including cleats, shin guards, Kings training shirt / shorts, water, and appropriate clothing in bad weather. Players are expected to concentrate and demonstrate Players are expected to concentrate and demonstrate Game - All players are expected to arrive 30 minutes prior to game start with all equipment on and ready to warm up.  Warming up is essential to a players physical well being.

Players / Tryouts – This team possesses exceptional girl athletes.  Girls are expected to be able to play any position even goalie.  Having well rounded players increases playing time opportunities for everyone and experience as the number of players on the field increases from 6 to 8 to 11 over the next few years.
Girls will try out for the team each fall.  If they are selected, they maintain that spot thru the spring season.  We will continue to carefully select the girls that join our team to keep the amazing teamwork and friendships we have fostered thus far together.

Team Guidelines – This team has been assembled to be very competitive.  Winning is the goal of every game.  Having fun is a given for the girls and the parents.  We will coach to win, always balancing playing time to build these young ladies into high school stars.  Playing time is earned and not always equal.  Plus, girls this age have performances vary from week to week so we will be observant to “feed the hot hand” each week.  These coaching fundamentals are common sense and need to be agreed to by all coaches and parents on the team.  The purpose is to have each girl gain as much valuable experience as possible while still accomplishing team goals.  Parents are expected to encourage all the girls.  Parents are allowed to encourage the girls on the field during the game just be sure to say the same message the coaches are instructing the girls to perform.  Parents may offer any suggestion to the coaches in a positive manner.  It is certain there could be a time where you disagree with a coaching decision during the game regarding your child.  We simply request you wait 24 hours before emailing / calling the coaches so immediacy of the game has worn off and allowed cooler heads to prevail.

Expectations – Parents and players are expected to prioritize the activities of this team.  Parents are expected to ensure that their daughter is practicing training specifically footwork training routines each week to master the lesson.  Coaches and parents of this team want the girls to be involved in other experiences like other sports, etc.  During fall and spring season, the team expects the players to prioritize the soccer team’s obligations.  Missing multiple activities can hamper the players learning which in turn can effect playing time.  Every effort to attend team activities needs to be attempted.  This team is prepared to participate in the following:
Footwork training 20 times per year scheduled normally once per week except during holiday breaks.
2 Team Practice per week during fall and spring seasons.
Weekly League Game (Fall and Spring Seasons)
2 to 3 weekend tournaments per season
1 offseason indoor league
Occasional practices for specific purposes
Team Parties

We will maintain 4 subs on our roster which allows for absence from an event but repeated absence is unfair to your teammates and not acceptable.    All effort should be made to attend all tournament games because of the effort and fatigue on the girls playing multiple games in a weekend.

Fees – Playing SELECT is one of the most affordable opportunities in competitive youth soccer.  Kings annual league fee is $175.  Each player also has a TEAM Fee which is comprised of all other expenses like ref fees, tournament fees, any field fees and divided by the number of players.  Those fees can vary by the number of tournaments but average $130 to $160 per season.  Coaches want this team to participate in footwork training which is $180 / year.  Uniform fees are separate and we are also asking each girl to purchase a practice penny from Dick’s sporting goods for use at practice.

Uniforms – The team will wear the required Kings uniforms.  I will also encourage the girls to consider the kings soccer backpack, jacket and pants.  These are not required but I am a big supporter of teams looking strong and united.  We will create a swagger to this team that others take note of when playing against us.
